In China,November 11 is so called " Double 11",which means the single festival, but the country's popular e-commerce companies
enjoy sales exponentially greater than the average day.
In less than six minutes, around 1 billion yuan worth transactions were processed on Alibaba Group's online shopping sites Taobao
and Tamll.
Alibaba started the shopping tradition in 2009.Net users had already made it something of a special day every year by playfully referring
to November 11 or 11/11 - as " single day "
Now , not only is it " single day " bu the country's 600 million Net users make a singular effort to boost up sales for all manner of
e-commerce companies.
And each November 11 sets the sales bar higher than the year before. E-commerce companies prepare for the day weeks ahead of time
by improving delivery and payment capacities - and some would say by stubtly raising prices so that the discounts don't bite so much.
Alibaba's business-to-consumer Tmall website offers discount of 50 percent or more ,and other online retailers have joined the fray. Jindong
Mall, which sells food clothing, promises various discounts and free delivery even for the smallest deals.Appliance retailer Suning.com starts
its sales three days earlier, and bookseller dangdang.com launches a one-month sale.
But Alibaba is still winning the game it started. The company said that in the first minute of November 11 in the hours of a Monday - some
13.7 million people logged onto Tmall.com Within 38 minute,5 billion yuan worth of transactions were handled.Last year,it took eight hours
to reach this figure.
